Bubble Lake

The 400-year-old Netravali Lake in Goa is more popularly known as Budbudyachi Tali in Konkani, or Bubble Lake. Part of the famous Gopinath Temple complex, the surface of the water bubbles at regular intervals but that’s not all! As this puzzle depicts, when you clap your hands, the bubbles intensify as if the lake is responding to you. Legend has it that this phenomenon is the work of a local deity but a scientific explanation points to natural gases in the water. Whether folklore or science, the magic here is undeniable!

Gillian D’Souza was born and raised in Goa, with 22 years in the advertising and design industry. She explores colour and texture through mixed media techniques like collage, acrylics and ink.
